Three months after Hillsong Church started in Cape Town I found myself responding to the alter call and renewing my commitment to Christ. I started serving in Church and joined a Connect Group. Never before had I experienced such love from strangers, or heard of miracles or seen relationships flourish as I did from then on.

Early in 2009, I had a relapse from an injury I’d got in an accident. I was in immense pain and couldn’t walk. It was so bad that I was pushed into hospital in a wheelchair, and tests where done. The results came back stating that I had sciatica and a torn Achilles tendon. When the Connect Group I attended at the time learned of my misfortune, they met at my place and anointed me with oil and prayed over me.

The following scripture was given to me: ‘Is any sick among you?  Let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he has committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.’ (James 5:14–16).

I received my healing with child-like faith and declared it over myself. Two weeks later, returning to the doctor’s office, I WALKED in! Astonished, the doctor found it strange that I could walk without any pain or any aid.  He showed me the X-rays that proved that I needed to undergo an operation. But after examining me again, he gave me a clean bill of health.

I am forever grateful that I have come to know the God of miracles at our Church and I know that without the support and love from my Church family I would never have been able to put my faith to the test.
